Benjamin Ulyese "Benny" Bellamy
(September 6, 1956 - January 8, 1994)

WAYNESBORO, VA – Benjamin Ulyese “Benny” Bellamy, 37, of 1211 Winchester Road, died early Saturday morning (Jan. 8, 1994) at the University of Virginia Medical Center.

He was born Sept. 6, 1956, in Waynesboro, a son of Jathon and Augustine Howard Bellamy.

He graduated from Waynesboro High School in 1975 and attended Bowie State University and Piedmont Community College, studying accounting.

He was self-employed and a member of Union Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, survivors include his wife, Barbara Smith Bellamy of Houston, Texas; two daughters, Lanika Bellamy of Charlottesville and Lawern Benice Bellamy of Houston; a stepson, Willie Fisher Jr. of Charlottesville; a stepdaughter, Natilie Buttons Fisher of Houston; four sisters, Janitha “Nita” Bellamy and Gussie “Lisa” Cardwell, both of Waynesboro, Lawern “Lelia” Bellamy of Miami, Fla., and Nedaro “Dodie” Bellamy of Houston; four brothers, Jathon “Jay” Bellamy of Forestville, Md., Jeffro “Jess” Bellamy of Silver Spring, Md., James “Clinton” Bellamy of Houston and Engram “Mackie” Bellamy of Waynesboro; a number of uncles; a great-aunt, Mrs. Christine Howard of Waynesboro; and a number of aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.

A service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Union Baptist Church by the Rev. Robert E. Spellman Jr. assisted by the ministerial alliance with burial at Riverview Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Charles Nicholas, Johnnie Nicholas, Nat Nicholas, Andy Turner, Ricky Ray, Ricky Perry, Larry Breckenridge, Keith Willmott, Harold Foley, Jerry Brooks and Willie Fisher, Sr.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Waynesboro High School class of 1975 and friends attending the service.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at McCutcheon’s Funeral Home and at other times at the residence.

NOTE (2025-04-28): On Friday January 7, 1994 at “approximately 10:50 p.m.” in the “front yard” of Benny’s residence at “344 Tenth Street, Charlottesville, Virginia,” Benny sustained a “stab wound to the chest” and was transported to the “University of Virginia Hospital.” Upon arrival at the “Emergency Room,” Benny was treated by emergency room doctors and staff for “approximately 90 minutes” before succumbing to his wound at 12:25 a.m. on Saturday January 8, 1994. Subsequently, Medical Examiner Dr. Eric D. Speakman, M.D. determined Benny’s immediate cause of death as “cardiac laceration” due to the “stab wound to the chest” and his manner of death as “Homicide.”
